Arbitration and payload
CAN XL retains CAN-style arbitration while supporting larger payloads and a faster data phase.
CAN XL / Communication network
Higher-bandwidth CAN evolution
TOPOLOGYTwo-wire differential bus with CAN-family arbitration
PHYSICALAutomotive twisted pair and CAN XL-capable transceivers
DATA RATEUp to multi-megabit data phase depending on implementation
Correct theory and operation
Understand the normal architecture, signaling and message rules before deciding that a voltage or waveform is incorrect.
CAN XL retains CAN-style arbitration while supporting larger payloads and a faster data phase.
Edge rate, topology, connector quality and termination become increasingly important as data rates rise.
Common mistakes
Arbitration and data phases follow the installed CAN XL physical-layer configuration and decode into valid frames. Compare transitions, phase changes and traffic with a CAN XL-capable reference and tool.
Errors concentrated at a phase change, distorted edges or repeated invalid frames can indicate wiring, transceiver or configuration problems. A conventional CAN or CAN FD pattern is not a complete reference for CAN XL.
