Theory and operation
Battery temperature, state of charge, cell balance, station sharing, voltage architecture and thermal limits all shape the charge curve.
Charging Systems / Diagnostic guide
Explain normal and abnormal reasons actual charging power differs from the charger’s advertised maximum.
Use this guide to organize evidence. Vehicle-specific high-voltage access, measurements and component isolation require OEM procedures, appropriate qualifications, rated PPE and approved test equipment.
GUIDE PURPOSE
Confirm vehicle state, operating conditions and the full DTC record before clearing evidence or opening the high-voltage system.
Battery temperature, state of charge, cell balance, station sharing, voltage architecture and thermal limits all shape the charge curve.
Record starting SOC and temperature, charger rating, negotiated limit, vehicle-requested current, delivered power and taper point.
Repeat under comparable conditions and use the lowest active limit PID to identify the controlling system.
Do not promise peak nameplate power at high SOC, extreme temperature or an incompatible station voltage.
Specifications, connector access, disable sequences, wait times and allowable tests vary by model and voltage architecture.
