Theory and operation
During AC charging the EVSE supplies AC and the onboard charger converts it to DC; pilot duty and vehicle limits determine available current.
Charging Systems / Diagnostic guide
Separate EVSE supply, pilot/proximity communication, inlet hardware and onboard conversion.
Use this guide to organize evidence. Vehicle-specific high-voltage access, measurements and component isolation require OEM procedures, appropriate qualifications, rated PPE and approved test equipment.
GUIDE PURPOSE
Confirm vehicle state, operating conditions and the full DTC record before clearing evidence or opening the high-voltage system.
During AC charging the EVSE supplies AC and the onboard charger converts it to DC; pilot duty and vehicle limits determine available current.
Check source rating, pilot/proximity status, inlet temperature, lock state, OBC request/output, contactors, isolation and thermal limits.
Prove the EVSE with approved equipment or another known-compatible source, then follow the signal path into the vehicle.
Do not probe mains or control-pilot circuits with unapproved equipment or infer compatibility from connector fit alone.
Specifications, connector access, disable sequences, wait times and allowable tests vary by model and voltage architecture.
