Theory and operation
HVIL proves connector and cover status; it does not prove absence of voltage. Some systems monitor one series loop while others identify individual segments.
Battery & High Voltage / Diagnostic guide
Understand series loops, monitored segments and intelligent connector interlocks.
Use this guide to organize evidence. Vehicle-specific high-voltage access, measurements and component isolation require OEM procedures, appropriate qualifications, rated PPE and approved test equipment.
GUIDE PURPOSE
Confirm vehicle state, operating conditions and the full DTC record before clearing evidence or opening the high-voltage system.
HVIL proves connector and cover status; it does not prove absence of voltage. Some systems monitor one series loop while others identify individual segments.
Compare interlock command/bias, return state, connector status PIDs, recent service points and DTC setting conditions.
Inspect low-voltage interlock connectors and service history first, then use the OEM connector-location and continuity strategy with the system safely disabled.
Never bypass an interlock to make READY mode possible.
Specifications, connector access, disable sequences, wait times and allowable tests vary by model and voltage architecture.
