Correct theory and operation
Separate controller command, loaded circuit behavior and useful mechanical or thermal output.

Identify the installed actuator and driver from vehicle-specific service information. Test only the applicable circuit; different constructions require different connections and equipment.
Current rise, running level, commutation and turn-off behavior expose winding condition, resistance and mechanical loading.
Position, pressure, speed, temperature or current feedback may be separate from the actuator circuit and must agree with command.
Common mistakes
At a steady operating point, motor current and loaded supply are repeatable. A brushed motor may show regular commutation ripple; electronically commutated motors must be assessed with their specific driver and command strategy.
Excessive current with little motion can indicate binding or a stalled load. Intermittent current loss can indicate supply, connection or brush problems. Low current can also mean insufficient supply or reduced command. Confirm actual speed, travel, pressure or airflow rather than interpreting current alone.
COMPLETE TEST SEQUENCE
Know the driver design, current limit, feedback circuit and safety consequences before applying external power.
Identify the installed design before testing. Construction, signal format and redundant channels are separate attributes; use only the procedure for the actual component.
