Correct theory and operation
Understand the component, its circuit and the controller's strategy before interpreting the waveform or beginning disassembly.
The ABS controller pulses hydraulic valves and operates a return pump to modulate wheel pressure.
Safety-critical PWM valves and high-current pump. The exact high-side, low-side, H-bridge or smart-module arrangement must be confirmed from the wiring diagram.
Normally open inlet and normally closed outlet valves control pressure to each wheel circuit. The controller pulses valve coils and operates a return pump to hold, reduce or rebuild pressure during slip control.
Wheel-speed feedback closes the control loop. Electrical command alone does not prove hydraulic movement; coil current, pump current, pressure response, fluid condition and trapped air all affect operation.
Repeatable response from each valve Stable pump current and voltage No valve or pressure faults return
Common mistakes
Logic levels and edge transitions are consistent with the installed circuit. Pulse timing changes in the specified way as the input changes; intended index gaps or encoded features repeat correctly.
Missing or extra edges, weak switching levels, intermittent pulse loss or a stuck level can indicate supply, ground, wiring, target or sensor problems. A steady level can be normal when the target is stationary. Decode encoded signals using the correct protocol.
COMPLETE TEST SEQUENCE
Verify controller request, loaded voltage, current signature and mechanical or hydraulic response as separate evidence.
Identify the installed design before testing. Construction, signal format and redundant channels are separate attributes; use only the procedure for the actual component.
